Community hero is a term used to describe someone who helps others, especially people in need, by providing assistance. Examples of community heroes include firefighters, police officers, teachers, nurses, and emergency medical technicians. People who become community heroes often do it out of the kindness of their hearts and want to make a difference in the lives of those around them.
The most successful communities are able to create an engaging mission statement that captures the essence of their culture and values. It serves as a guide for members and can help them decide whether or not the community fits their own values and goals. A community’s mission statement should also be clear and concise to ensure that potential members can understand it easily.
UPMC Community Heroes is an initiative of KDKA that recognizes individuals who are making a difference in their neighborhoods and the Pittsburgh region. These individuals inspire others with their dedication and actions, and we are proud to share their stories as a way of thanking them for all that they do.
Do you know a community hero who deserves to be recognized? If so, we invite you to nominate them for a Community Hero award presented by The Greg Hill Foundation and Chick-fil-A. If selected, a first responder will receive four tickets and in-game recognition during a New York Islanders home game.
